Friendly League 2022
We're Back!
Thursday 13th January
We're delighted to announce that bar billiards is back up and running in Hastings. As a starting point we have decided to run a friendly league between the four remaining team in the town. The league will run between January and May with an emphasis on getting back on the baize and having some fun. Many thanks to Ian Hicks who has set up the fixtures and the rest of the Jenny Lind B team for getting the league off the ground.
Friendly League Ends In Draw
Wednesday 25th May
The Old King John and the Jenny Lind B have agreed to end the friendly season by sharing the league title. Congratulations to both teams. In the coming weeks we will be announcing the date for the AGM, for the future of the league it is important to get as many voices together to create a path for the league to continue and hopefully increase playing numbers. Date and times will be announced here and via email, if you believe you're not on the emailing list then please pass your details on to Sandy or your team captain.
Week Twelve Results
Sunday 8th May
After twelve weeks of games, 120 games of bar billiards and 629,190 points scored the season has ended in a tie! The Old King John did everything they could to chase the title by beating the Jenny Lind A 5-0, Andy Ellison, Roger Andrews, Nigel Doe, Chris Lamb and Garry Tomlin were the winners. The Old King John had to rely on the Jenny Lind B beating top of the table the Ashburnham Arms 3-2, the home side took the lead through Ian Hicks before the Ash took a 2-1 lead with Sandy Harmer and Dave White with the wins. Alex Reardon played a great game to level the match before Steve Astley pipped Dave Pearce in the last game for it to end 3-2. These results mean that the Jenny Lind B and the Old King John end the season with identical records, the Ashburnham Arms are also level on points but due to winning one less leg they finish third. The outcome of the league season is being decided by both sides and an agreement will be reached by the end of this week where a play off may decide the title winner or both sides to agree to a joint title.

Week Eleven Results
Friday 29th April
The title challenge has reached boiling point in the friendly league as three teams have a possibility to win the title. Leaders Ashburnham Arms won the top of the table clash at home to the Jenny Lind B, wins for Dave White, Sandy Harmer and Mick Osborne secured the win for the home side, Steve Astley and Ian Hicks were the victors for the visitors. The Jenny Lind A might be out of the title race but they have had a big say by securing their second win on the bounce to thwart title contenders the Old King John. Home captain Ray Norton continued his superb form with another win, Nigel Doe levelled the match for the visitors. Peter Payne put the home side ahead before Chris Lamb levelled the game at 2-2 and it was left to Andrew Lipscombe to win the final game of the night to secure the victory for the Jenny Lind A.
The Title run in, what do they need?:
Ashburnham Arms need a 3-2 win to win the title.
Jenny Lind B need a 4-1 win to win the title.
Old King John need to win 5-0 and for the Jenny Lind B to win 3-2 for both teams to finish with identical records, a play off game will be decided by the committee and both teams.

Week Ten Results Part Two
Friday 29th April
The Old King John have strengthened their title challenge with a 3-2 win away to fellow title challengers the Jenny Lind B. The game was settled within the first three games as Chris Lamb, Mark Bailey, and Andy Ellison all won for the visitors. Home captain Steve Astley recorded the highest score of the night to make it 3-1 and Jez Horsler won the last game of the night to ensure a thrilling end to the season.
Week Ten Results
Thursday 14th April
It was a week of celebration for the league as the Jenny Lind A broke their duck in the friendly league with a 3-2 win at the leaders the Ashburnham Arms. The visitors had a great start as Peter Payne played the performance of the night with a fantastic 8,000 starting break and continued to reach 11,140 to see off Mick Osborne. Ray Norton continued his great form by beating Lynne Truslove and the match was settled early as Andrew Lipcscombe beat Dave Pearce as Dave knocked the black peg down whilst sinking the ball with him needing the 200 to win. Dave White managed to get the home side on the scoreboard by just edging past David Dow and home captain Sandy Harmer secured the final game of the night by winning the clash of the captains against Ray Norton. Jenny Lind B v Old King John will be played next week. The title race is warming up and a massive congratulations to Ray Norton and his team!
Week Nine Results
Friday 8th April
The title race has opened up after week nine with the Old King John closing the gap to the leaders to eight points after a 4-1 win at home to leaders Jenny Lind B. Andy Ellison, Roger Andrews and Chris Lamb won the first three games for the home side, Andy Horsler won the only game of the night for the visitors before Roger Andrews secured the 4-1 win for the OKJ. The Ashburnham Arms went level on points with the leaders with a 3-2 win at the Jenny Lind B. In form captain Ray Norton and Tom Pope (who secured his first win! Well done Tom!) put the home side 2-0 ahead only for the old guard to come to the Ashburnham's rescue, Mick Osborne, Sandy Harmer and Dave White won the final three games to snatch the win away from the home side.

Thursday 24th March
It was 4-1 home wins all round in week eight as the Ashburnham Arms kept pressure on the leaders as they overcame last weeks defeat to the OKJ with a 4-1 home win, Nigel Doe put the OKJ ahead but wins for Dave White, Mick Osborne, Dave Pearce and Sandy Harmer secured the win for the home side. Jenny Lind B still lead the way in the league thanks to a 4-1 win at home in the 'Jenny derby', Jez Horsler, Andy Horsler, Alex Reardon and Steve Astley won the first four games before Andrew Lipscombe won the fifth game of the night for the visitors to avoid a whitewash.
Week Seven Results
Thursday 17th March
The Jenny Lind B go top of the league as we enter the second half of the season after the B's beat the A's in the Jenny derby, Jez Horsler put the B's in front before David Dow levelled for the A's but wins from Ian Hicks, Alex Reardon and another win from Jez Horsler secured the victory. The Jenny A's rise to the top were aided by the Old King John inflicting a heavy defeat on the Ashburnham Arms. Andy Ellison, Mark Bailey, Garry Tomlin and Roger Andrews were all deserving winners for the home side, visiting captain Sandy Harmer secured the only win for the visitors.

Friday 4th March
The Jenny Lind B closed the gap on the leaders the Ashburnham Arms after ending the table toppers 100% record with a 3-2 win at home, wins for Steve Astley, Ian Hicks and Jez Horsler secured the points, Sandy Harmer and Dave Pearce won the last games of the night for the visitors. The Old King John continued their fine form with a 4-1 win at home to the Jenny Lind A, Ray Norton put the visitors ahead but wins for Chris Lamb, Mark Bailey, Nigel Doe and Roger Andrews ensured the win for the home side.
Week Five Results
Thursday 24th February
The Ashburnham Arms extended their lead at the top of the table after a 3-2 win at home to second place Jenny Lind B. Wins from Leigh Truslove, Dave White and Sandy Harmer were enough to secure the victory in a tight match, Steve Astley and Jez Horsler were the victors for the visiting team. The Old King John won their first away game of the season with a 4-1 win at the Jenny Lind A, Chris Lamb, Nigel Doe, Mark Bailey and Andy Ellison with the wins leaving home captain Ray Norton to be the only winner for the home side.

Thursday 10th February
The Jenny Lind B kept their 100% home record with a 4-1 win against the Old King John. Alex Reardon (twice) Jez Horsler and Steve Astley were the victors for the home side and Nigel Doe continued his impressive start to the season with the only win for the visitors.
The Ashburnham Arms stay top after a 3-2 win at home to the Jenny Lind B, Ray Norton put the away side in the lead before wins from Dave White, Sandy Harmer and Mick Osborne gave the home side the win. David Dow won the final game of the night for the visitors to end an entertaining evening.
Week Three Results
Thursday 3rd February
The Ashburnham Arms continued their 100% record so far this season with a 5-0 win at the Jenny Lind A. Dave White, Sandy Harmer, Mick Osborne and two wins from Dave Pearce took the spoils for the visitors although the match was far closer than the score line suggests.
The Old King John recorded their first win of the season with a 3-2 win at home to the Jenny Lind B. Jez Horsler put the visitors ahead before Andy Ellison and Chris Lamb took the home side in to the lead. Ian Hicks won the fourth for the visitors to level the match before Roger Andrews won the last match of the night to ensure the win for the Old King John.

Thursday 20th January
The Jenny Lind derby was saved by our friends from Eastbourne, the game was nearly a three game match due to Covid but the ex Nags Head B team stepped in to ensure a five game match, unfortunately for the A team even their new signings they couldn't stop a 5-0 win for the home team. Steve Astley, Ian Hicks, Jez Horsler and Alec Pope won the first four games for the Jenny Lind B before Colin Southouse scored the highest score of the night (8,000) to ensure a 5-0 win.
The Ashburnham Arms completed the double over the Old King John with another 3-2 win. The home side took a 3-0 lead with wins from Dave White, Mick Osborne (7,590) and Sandy Harmer. Andy Ellison and Chris Lamb won the final two games of the night for the visitors to lift themselves off the bottom of the table.
Week One Results
Thursday 13th January
The start of the friendly league wasn't too friendly for the home sides as both the visiting teams won in week one. In the Jenny Lind derby the B's took the bragging rights as they ran out 3-2 victors. Nick Speight (4,670) put the A side ahead with the highest score of the night but the B's rallied back with wins from Heather, Jez Horsler and Steve Astley, it was left to Jenny A captain Ray Norton to stop the losing streak as he won the final game of the night.
The Ashburnham Arms won a tight game at the Old King John 3-2, Mark Bailey put the home side ahead but in a similar pattern to the Jenny Lind game the away side rallied back, Mick Osborne, Sandy Harmer put the away side in the lead before new big money signing Lynn Truslove won on her debut to secure the victory for the visitors. Nigel Doe won the final game of the night for the Old King John.
